    DAY 1

    Kind Words Challenge
    DAY 1
    Welcome, welcome, welcome!

For the next 5 days we have all sorts of fun for you in store.  Each day we have a writing challenge, a speaking challenge and then a game!

Feel free to mix and match, skip some, save some, come back to others! Here are some fun suggestions to get us started on day one.

Whatever works for you. Please do share with us on social media and feedback to us about your favourites!

Use hashtags #kindwordschallenge and #thekindnesselves so we can find you!

    Everyday we have:

    - a speaking activity - a writing activity - a game to play

    WRITING ACTIVITY

Use alphabet beads to make a positive word bracelet to describe yourself!
Use alphabet beads to make a positive word bracelet to describe yourself!
    Kind Words Bracelet
    Materials Needed:

    • Yarn / pipe cleaner / cord
    • Small alphabet beads

    Instructions:

Talk to each other about positive ways to describe your own character and attributes. Do you feel strong, brave, intelligent, helpful, hard working, loving, kind? If you're not sure which word to choose ask a friend or family member how they would describe you!

Decide on your favourite adjective and use alphabet beads to spell it out onto your chosen bracelet or necklace material. Wear your new creation with pride and be ready to tell others why you chose that word.

Why not make a whole collection of positive word bracelets for your friends and family too? Think carefully for the best words to describe them. You could make their day with this lovely, thoughtful gift!

    SPEAKING ACTIVITY

Say THANK YOU loud and clearly to everyone today!
Say THANK YOU loud and clearly to everyone today!
    Instructions:

Ah, good manners are so important, right?! And yet we often forget to thank those who really, truly do the most for us every single day. Let's take a moment to remember all those who help us and serve us each day and take time out to truly stop and thank them for what they do today. Parents, teachers, friends, school volunteers, community workers, even siblings!

Using kind words to say a genuine "thank you for everything that you do for me" will make people feel appreciated and grateful. Try it and see how you could brighten their day with just words!

    GAME TIME

Start a Kind Words Overheard Jar!
Start a Kind Words Overheard Jar!
    Kind Words Overheard Jar
    Materials needed:

    • Empty jam jar
    • Beads/ pom poms/ marbles
    • Paper, pen and glue to make a label

    Instructions:

Write "Kind Words Overheard" onto paper and stick it on the front of the jam jar. Explain to the children that every time someone hears another child or group of kids being kind, thoughtful, forgiving, helpful etc then we will add a small object to the jar.

When the jar is full then the group/ family gets to decide what to do together as a special treat!

The only rule is that no-one is allowed to report their own kind words, they need to be "overheard" to count.
This is a lovely way to encourage the children to do what the Kindness Elves call "Kind Tattling", which is coming to report only GOOD news to a teacher or parent, instead of bad! This is such a positive thing to try together and really fosters the development of kindness.
