    Salt Dough Thankful Leaves

These are lovely to make together after talking about everything you feel grateful for and would work particularly well for those celebrating Thanksgiving too!

Let's make a jar of Kindness

    Instructions

    Idea:

Make leaves from salt dough and write what you are thankful for onto each one. Then use them to decorate a gratitude tree as a family!

    Find:

    • 1 cup plain (all purpose) flour
    • 1 cup salt
    • 1/2 cup warm water
    • gel food colouring or paint
    • permanent marker pen
    • twine or ribbon
    • tree branch

    Make & Do:

    • Mix the dry ingredients together then slowly add the warm water.
    • Mix well and then knead it on a lightly floured surface until it's soft and non-sticky. As with any dough, you can adjust slight problems by adding a little more flour if it's too sticky and a little more water if too crumbly.
    • Roll the dough until it's about 1-2 cm thick then use leaf shaped cookie cutters to cut small leaves.
    • Put these straight onto a baking sheet and then use a straw to make a hole in each one, ready for stringing a ribbon through later.
    • Dry in the oven on a very low heat, approximately 100 degrees C (around 210 F) for 2-3 hours.
    • Once ready, talk about what you are thankful and write a word onto each leaf.
    • Then thread some twine or ribbon through each hole, tie in a loop and hang them from a branch to make a tree of thankfulness!
